Background:
In
January 2004, the Health Policy Institute of Ohio (HPIO) began as
a non-partisan, health care-focused statewide center dedicated to
providing independent, evidence-based information to Ohio lawmakers,
policymakers, and others interested in improving health outcomes. The
Institute, a collaborative effort funded by eight foundations
throughout Ohio, was a new approach to influencing health care decision
making in the state. Ohio now joins approximately one-third of the
states that already have non-partisan state-level “think tanks” focused
on promoting sound health-related research, identifying and forecasting
emerging health trends, and facilitating productive dialogue among key
stakeholders on critical health care issues.
This dedicated
journey results in HPIO’s Strategic Plan for years 2008 through 2010.
Our efforts are focused; decisions and choices are based on our core
values, as well as sound planning; we are accountable to our
stakeholders and to each other; and we have thoughtfully working to
remaining a key contributor to the health care policymaking landscape
in Ohio.
